Homeland legends

This is just too funny. I discovered today that there is a wikipedia entry for the Chupacabra. This mythical creature, now so ingrained in American pop-culture that it scored an appearance in the Cartoon Network’s animated series “The Venture Brothers”, is primarily associated with Mexico in the US but actually started in Puerto Rico back in the late 80’s.

I remember discussing the legend with friends as a teenager along with other strange phenomenon, such as UFO sightings is a lagoon near Guanica. I always attributed the livestock killings to a rogue wild animal that started out as someone’s pet or to pranksters; however, it a somewhat dubious honor to have one’s homeland’s urban legends gain such wide exposure.
